Women, Infants and Children, otherwise
known as WIC, has been around for years. It has proven to
be successful in giving women another alternative to ensure
their pregnancy is as healthy as can be. This results in
women carrying their babies to term, fewer low-birth weight
babies and fewer fetal and infant deaths.
Knowledge is a main concern of the WIC program. They try
to educate mothers with nutrition classes, doctor referrals,
immunization information and many other resources are available.
Low-income pregnant or breastfeeding mothers and children
under the age of five who have a nutritional risk are eligible
to participate in WIC. Since it is a short term program,
it is important for the mother's to take advantage of the
nutrition classes provided by WIC. They have proven to be
very informative and helpful.
